DAW Member Class – Molly Winton Day 1 – Making Mini Vessels and Surface Enhancements
March 20 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
You will learn how to make hollowing tools from hex wrenches and you will turn some small (miniature) items that will be used for embellishing. Molly will discuss the best woods and turning techniques for embellishing.
Miniature vessels are fun and easy to make using tools readily available on the market, and/or using simple homemade hollowing tools. They can be a great way to experiment with unfamiliar or different forms, and provide a quick way to experiment with many different texturing/carving techniques. This demonstration will begin with the making of a miniature vessel (no greater than 2 ½” in diameter and /or height) using a spindle gouge, detail gouge, and homemade Allen wrench hollower. Once off the lathe, various carving and texturing tools will be demonstrated to achieve a variety of surface textures. Tools will include a reciprocating carver, rotary carver, and engraver.
The cost is $150.00 per person. To save your slot for this class follow the link to pay and reserve your place. Look forward to seeing you there…
