Club Meeting – July 2019 – Round Robin Demo

The July 2019 demonstration will be a ’round robin’ style with 3 individual small demos happening simultaneously, each about 20 minutes long. Each demo will be 20 minutes in duration and then is will repeat three times in the hour. This way everyone can cycle through all three mini demos in a hour. The October 2019 demonstration will be presented by Jeff Hornung. Finishing The Finish: In this demo I discuss finishing products and techniques. We actually start with finishing cuts and sanding then move into abrasive pastes and sanding sealers. I’ll explain the difference between penetrating finishes and surface film finishes…when and why various products would be used and demonstrate some applications and results in real time. January Demo will be Ron Howe demonstrating his Dirty Pour.  Dirty Pour is a painting technique used to give unique style and flair to your turnings.  It can be used on lids, vessels or any object you wish to to add flair to.  This looks like it would be a great tool to revitalize some of your projects that may not have turned out as well as you wanted them to. We also help beginners, those with other projects and tool sharpening. We have seven Jet 16-42 lathes and all the accessories for each lathe. The demo this month will be done by a team consisting of Brian Evans, Sharon Ayres, and Charlie Tucker. They will turn the parts for a pedestal cake plate. Club Meeting – March 2020 – CANCELLED

The Dallas Area Woodturners have decided to cancel the upcoming March 19th meeting (and open shop on Saturday) due the risk to our membership. It has been advised by the Dallas County HHS and the CDC to avoid gatherings of certain sizes, especially for older adults. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/specific-groups/high-risk-complications.html We hope to resume our monthly program in the next month.
