Come turn a Beads of Courage box for a cancer or traumatic injury kid and learn segmented turning. Instructor – Bob Fleming One day class, wood sandpaper and lacquer provided. Necessary tools, bowl gouge, detail tool, regular or carbide scraper nice but not necessary. Cost 10.00 lunch not included. Club Meeting – February 2020 – Pedestal Cake Platter with Brian Evan, Charlie Tucker and Sharon Ayres

The demo this month will be done by a team consisting of Brian Evans, Sharon Ayres, and Charlie Tucker. They will turn the parts for a pedestal cake plate. The detailed handout is located later in this very newsletter. Editor’s Note: Charlie Tucker has challenged me to video the demo which will be in three parts. Club Meeting – March 2020 – CANCELLED

The Dallas Area Woodturners have decided to cancel the upcoming March 19th meeting (and open shop on Saturday) due the risk to our membership. It has been advised by the Dallas County HHS and the CDC to avoid gatherings of certain sizes, especially for older adults. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/specific-groups/high-risk-complications.html We hope to resume our monthly program in the next month. Born in Australia, Phil was brought up with wood in the family, his father was a woodworker and together with his mother they were antique restorers. Phil’s introduction to woodturning came at the age of 13 when his father acquired a cast iron child’s treadle lathe, made in the USA in the 1870s.
